Active listening is the most essential tool in the design process – where the information gathered provides the resources needed to effectively problem solve. Every project begins with a series of informal conversations where the initial needs, goals, and constraints of a project are discussed and defined with our clients. It is in these early discussions that the Program for a project is defined by the client and the conceptual design process is possible to commence.
Schematic Design is the initial conceptual design phase of a project where we work together with our clients to explore how the various objectives, relationships, and conditions of a project can shape its solutions. It is through this creative process that we are able to provide our clients with the visual tools to explore and discover the potential of their vision.

COLLABORATE + DEVELOP
Collaboration is the key.
Open communication and collaboration are essential at every phase of a project’s development. Once a project’s Program has been defined and a Schematic Conceptual Design has been approved by the client, the concept is taken into the next phase of Design Development. In the Design Development phase we continue to develop the design with the clients and begin to collaborate with the necessary project consultants and applicable agencies.
It is in this phase that the project specifications and details are developed, and the entitlement process is initiated to ensure project compliance and feasibility.

It all comes down to Communication.
At the end of the day, our job is to provide the necessary instruments of service to clearly communicate the design intent of a project to those involved in the permitting and construction process. At this final phase of the architectural design process we work to develop a complete set of Construction Documents which will be used for Permitting, Bidding, & Construction. MGDA handles project entitlement and permit processing for all of its projects to ensure that all required permits and clearances are obtained prior to the commencement of construction. We are available to review construction bids on behalf of our clients to verify all bids are comprehensive in scope and quality with regard to the design intent. We also strongly encourage our involvement during the construction process in order to ensure the finished scope and quality is aligned with the expectations of our clients.
